Big fan of Deus Ex for over 10 years, witnessed major milestones for the franchise and the community, but was more like a fly on the wall instead of directly contributing. Trying to make up for that hesitation now with this archive, as I regret failing to seize the opportunity to communicate with and collaborate with others on a franchise I love so much.

My interest in Deus Ex is more than just archiving and extracting stuff, I produced art, music, writing, videos, Ren'Py visual novel games, clothes, 3D models, game mods, websites, and some other stuff based on or inspired by Deus Ex. It's quite literally been my main interest for most of my adult life, stimulating me with a passion which allowed me to learn many skills that ended up serving me well outside of this bubble.
===HARDWIR3D===
For the longest time, I was intensely obsessed with Francis Pritchard, in a very introverted and closed-off sort of way, perhaps even to an unhealthy degree. It goes without saying that most of my work was inspired by or direct homages to him. However, due to a recent unfortunate event that has left me quite numb, I have been unable to feel the same way as I did towards the character.

Ever since, I've lacked the motivation or drive to keep working on '''HARDWIR3D''', a fanfiction featuring Frank and my OC's that I had been developing since November 2016 after experiencing a dream where Frank was apprehended by FEMA following the Breach event in System Rift.

Jacynthia was originally a placeholder character, imagined as an off-shoot of myself, as the dream that inspired the story was from the first-person perspective. But over the years she deviated drastically from the source and became a character in her own right.

Following that logic, I don't consider her a self-insert, as I do not identify with the character's personality nor appearance; she became more of a character study on how suffering corrupts one's perspective, leading to toxic coping mechanisms that only cause suffering in the end for everyone involved. Definitely not a person anyone should want to embody or emulate...there is no happy ending to be found.

It's quite literally been my main interest for most of my adult life, stimulating me with a passion which allowed me to learn many skills that ended up serving me well outside of this bubble.
===HARDWIR3D===
For the longest time, I was intensely obsessed with Francis Pritchard, in a very introverted and closed-off sort of way, perhaps even to an unhealthy degree. It goes without saying that most of my work was inspired by or direct homages to him. However, due to a recent unfortunate event that has left me quite numb, I have been unable to feel the same way as I did towards the character.

Ever since, I've lacked the motivation or drive to keep working on HARDWIR3D, a fanfiction featuring Frank and my OC's that I had been developing since November 2016 after experiencing a dream where Frank was apprehended by FEMA following the Breach event in System Rift.

Jacynthia was originally a placeholder character, imagined as an off-shoot of myself, as the dream that inspired the story was from the first-person perspective. But over the years she deviated drastically from the source and became a character in her own right.

Following that logic, I don't consider her a self-insert, as I do not identify with the character's personality nor appearance; she became more of a character study on how suffering corrupts one's perspective, leading to toxic coping mechanisms that only cause suffering in the end for everyone involved. Definitely not a person anyone should want to embody or emulate...there is no happy ending to be found.

This is mostly optional, but you can also create a showcase on a creator page that displays the OCs that person has made. The name of the character should link to the OC article, and the caption should be just a simple and short description of who the character is and their significance or their role is within their respective stories.

For character info table, just paste one from another page that already has one. The table is 360px wide, and should always be at the very top of the page, i.e. at the beginning of the text formatting box for the entire page (unless there is a disclaimer info box), otherwise it will not display correctly to the right of the content on the page.

The first row of the character info table must contain the name of the character being discussed, and the second row must contain a headshot image of the character. Recommended size is 256px width/height.

The colors of the table can be modified to show which era the character is from or primarily active during significant events of the canon timeline. <font style="color:#b18840;font-weight:bold;">Gold</font> is Human Revolution & Mankind Divided (2020's), <font style="color:#404fb1;font-weight:bold;">Blue</font> is Deus Ex (2050's), <font style="color:#6640b1;font-weight:bold;">Purple</font> is Invisible War (2070's). ====Character Infobox Rows====
Below is a list of usual table rows within the character info box and the kind of information that should be displayed.

*<b>Name:</b> The friendly name of the character. If the full name is too long for the infobox (i.e. if they have many middle names), please write it in the <i>Overview</i> instead.
*<b>Aliases:</b> Nicknames, screennames, codenames, etc.
*<b>Born:</b> The birthdate of the character, with the format Month Day, Year (Age at Timeline); for example, <code>July 16th, 1995 (32 in 2027)</code>. If the exact date is unknown, the year will suffice.
*<b>Nationality:</b> Country the character holds a passport in and is a recognized citizen. This is usually empty for artificial intelligence or creatures. The country can be linked to the Deus Ex fandom wikia on the relevant page.
*<b>Occupation:</b> Employment/jobs, the most recent on the top, including the years held.
*<b>Height:</b> Preferably both in centimetres and feet, i.e. 160cm / 5'3"
*<b>Weight:</b> If necessary, usually left out if irrelevant.
*<b>Blood Type:</b> If necessary, usually left out if irrelevant.
*<b>Eye Color:</b> Specify whether the eye color is natural or not if the character has augmented eyes that changes the color, i.e. Yellow (augmented), brown (natural)
*<b>Hair Color:</b> Like eyes, can specify whether the hair is the natural colour or not.
*<b>Augmentations:</b> To avoid incessantly long character info table, they are grouped into smaller collapsible sections; <b>Nanotechnological</b> (nanites), <b>Physiopharmaceutical</b> (similar to MiB and WiB in DX1), <b>Mechanical</b> (like an arm prosthetic), <b>Transgenical</b> (weird genetically engineered creatures), and <b>Experimental</b> (for augs/enhancements that do not fit into the aforementioned categories). Under each category, you can define further, such as dividing the section into bodily regions such as <b>Cranial</b>, <b>Spinal</b>, etc. or manufacturer such as <b>Sarif Industries</b>, <b>Tai Yong Medical</b>, etc.
*<b>Relatives:</b> Family members, including adoptive and blood-related. For clones, you can indicate the genetic origins.
*<b>Relationships:</b> Divided into collapsible categories again; <b>Allies</b> and <b>Enemies</b>. Significant relationships with both canon and non-canon characters, most importantly romantic partners, best friends, partners, colleagues, rivals, etc. If it's just an acquaintance, it's probably redundant to add.
*<b>Affiliation:</b> Group or organisation the character is a member of.
*<b>Opposition:</b> Groups or organisation the character is an enemy of.
*<b>Neutral:</b> Groups or organisations the character is neutral towards - this is somewhat redundant, but can be added if it's important to demonstrate.
*<b>Friendly:</b> Groups or organisation the character is friendly towards - this is somewhat redundant, but can be added if it's important to demonstrate.
*<b>Creator:</b> Artist name, linking to their artist page on this website. If you want to link their blog or website, please do so on the artist page, not on the character page.
*<b>Year:</b> Can change the title to <b>Date of Creation</b> if more valid. Follow the same format as the date of birth (see above). Can be left out of the table entirely if it's impossible to locate the date.
*<b>Appearances:</b> Main fictional work the character is featured in. Often the name of the AU or fanfiction they are featured in, although not all creators have done this. In the event of no name, just put a hyphen in its place. Please don't remove it, otherwise there will be added labour in putting it back.

Stuff like gender/pronouns are left out of the table, but if important for the character, please elaborate in the article instead. <i>Overview</i> or <i>Appearance</i> sections are probably the best to describe these details.

====Infobox Styling====
Character profile images within the infobox should have the background corresponding with the franchise era. To do this you need to know how to use the various IDs and Classes that were created to style the tables.

Here, two buttons are placed above the profile image, and the text of the buttons can be changed retroactively.

To keep the image clickable so it opens up the File: page on the wiki, we need the File name, like this: <code>File:Lexi_blue_headshot.png</code>, and then we need to hard-link the image within the <code><a href=" "></code> tag like this: <code>/index.php/File:Lexi_blue_headshot.png</code>.

To get the full link of the image you need to right click the image on the File: page and copy image link, then it can be shortened by starting at the /images/ directory, like this: <code>/images/e/e3/Red-lexi_headshot.png</code>. This needs to be done on an image-by-image basis as the directory may differ between the files.

Lastly, you need a hidden displayable of the image so the wiki knows that it has been used/referenced on that page, as the previous code is not in default wiki styling. You can do this by adding a <code><nowiki><div style="display:none;"></nowiki></code> and adding the image links as you would normally do: <code><nowiki>[[File:Lexi_blue_headshot.png|class=pageimage]][[File:Red-lexi_headshot.png]]</nowiki></code>. The <code><nowiki>class=pageimage</nowiki></code> sets which image you want to be the default image for the page in the wiki, for example when searching for the page in the search bar.

Below are working examples; on the left demonstrates the different franchise era styling, on the right demonstrates what it looks like when injected into a character infobox table.

==Variant Switcher==
Sometimes the image tabber is not enough, as it's mostly intended to be used for minor aesthetic variations, i.e. a version of a character during the 2030's and a version of them during the 2070's.

In the rare case where the variations are so extreme from one another (i.e. they have completely different designs, histories, futures, etc.) you will need to use the variant switcher. This is usually when duplicates characters need merging into a single article, but the information for the two characters differ drastically.

To implement this into a character article, the code is a simple div container that you place around the text for each variant:

There is an option of displaying relevant speech as stylised quotes, instead of using boring blockquotes. The colour of the quotation marks can be changed depending on the franchise era, to better match with other elements of the page.

A global class in the CSS wasn't created for this purpose because normally a margin would not be needed with general use of the alert boxes, as very rarely does any character need more than one.

Inside the first div container, the <code>name-plate-hrmd</code> class changes the background colour for the header row to match the Human Revolution and Mankind Divided gold color, so it's no longer needed to add a <code>background-color</code> style. The other franchise eras use <code>name-plate-dx</code> (Deus Ex), <code>name-plate-iw</code> (Invisible War), and <code>name-plate-pl</code> (Plain/None) respectively.

The second div container uses the id <code>align-r</code> to float the Approval Star to the right of the name without making a new line. The class <code>approval-star</code> handles the style and positioning of the star icon.

Next, the image is added, using MediaWiki syntax. The hover caption text needs to be changed depending on the star, i.e.

Over time, Jacy’s unreciprocated love festers into a kind of quiet, obsessive devotion; reverent and tragic, like a melancholic nun revering a distant, indifferent god. When Frank leaves to pursue his own path after the collapse of Sarif Industries, her mental and physical health decline sharply. Keane, who remains by her side, urges her to move on, but her stubborn loyalty refuses to let go.

Yet, Jacy is not defined by passivity. When she learns of Frank’s possible capture following the Palisade Breach, her grief becomes purpose. She mobilizes her skills and contacts, confronts danger head-on, and takes decisive action to uncover the truth and plan his daring rescue; proving that, while love once made her suffer, it also gave her purpose and strength.
==History==
Jacy was raised in England by a multicultural working class family. She wasn’t necessarily well off, but she and her family never struggled to fulfil their basic needs. For most of her adult life, found it very difficult to maintain her mental health. Most of it stemmed from having a problematic home life as a child, and being bullied at school. For years she suffered very badly with social anxiety, even well into her 20’s.

When she decided to follow her interests and study Sound Engineering in university, she tried to mitigate her social anxiety through self-imposed exposure therapy, specifically joining student societies (also known as extra-curricular clubs). After heading to a couple club meetings, she was going to quit as she felt way too shy to participate, until she eventually managed to befriend another student, studying Computer Science. His name was Keane Grimford, and like Jacy, he also wasn’t the most socially astute person, but by supporting one another both were able to come out of their shells a bit. Despite coming from completely different backgrounds, surprisingly they shared many overlapping interests, such as gaming, psychology and philosophy, writing fantasy, and comic books.

It was through Keane, she realised she had a pretty good grasp on computing technology. Unfortunately, that meant that she felt as if she made a terrible mistake with her choice of study, but she was determined to see it through to the end.

When Keane left for Washington, D.C. to complete his final academic year, Jacy had to learn to deal with everything by herself again, but this time more confident and assured than ever before. She completed her studies, and not long after, she convinced herself to follow Keane into the unknown, leaving her past behind her to look upon the horizon of a bright future.

Keane and Jacy lived for a short period of time in New York, which would normally be impossible if they were alone, but combining their salaries they were able to afford the rent. With some work and help from Keane, Jacy eventually adapted her technical skills in sound engineering to work better with general electronics and computers, which landed her a job as a field technician for a telecoms company, while Keane became a support analyst for a pharmaceutical company.

Claire Green is a 25-year-old NYPD officer who's in an implicit romantic relationship with JC Denton. She plays a supporting role in the cause against Majestic 12.

==Personality==
Claire is an extroverted social butterfly, with the tendency to be a little bit silly and cheesy. She loves to be in constant movement - you can find her dancing, running or simply sneaking into ventilation systems.

She usually stops by thrift stores to buy antique CDs. Her favorite music genre is Memphis Rap, harshly criticized by Paul in her teen years. However, contrary to that gangsta façade, behind the violent lyrics, rough past and her shabby accent, there is a Christian soul praying to change and be a better human being.

Claire loves animals. She thinks she is a bird whisperer, and she can be seen shaking her arms and schreeching, believing she is communicating with them, apparently "she's asking about directions, food and people". While it may be a cause of dementia due to her malnourishment and drug consumption (as some civilians think), the truth is this skill is useful to her... sometimes.

Romantically, she is a clingy and jealous woman, although she is also very affectionate and loving. Her love language are words of affirmation and physical touch.

By the time passes by, Claire becomes a more sensitive woman, calm and maternal. During the events of Invisible War, she treats Alex D as a long-term friend, offering food and shelter just in exchange of someone to hear her thoughts.

==Appearance==
Claire only heights 1,50 m, due to her malnourishment in her chilhood. Her body shape can be described as a triangle, since she has flat chest. However, she considers herself "optimal", because her slender and flexible frame is able to run fast and sneak into small compartments, allowing her to avoid confrontations.

Her skin is white, filled with tattoos in her left shoulder and arm. She has freckles on her face, green eyes and long, blonde hair, which she usually ties in a bun (as she works in the NYPD) or braids it (in casual situations).

Hand chosen by [https://deusex.fandom.com/wiki/Athene_Margoulis Athene Margoulis] on behalf of [https://deusex.fandom.com/wiki/David_Sarif David Sarif]'s unusual hiring requirements, he acted as [https://deusex.fandom.com/wiki/Francis_Pritchard Frank Pritchard]'s main assistant and protégé during the time of his employment, often covering the office nightshift.

==Appearance==
Keane's deep-set eyes and prominent nose gave him an appearance people often read as Middle Eastern; his long, wavy hair and thick body hair only reinforces the impression.

However his fashion sense diverges greatly from what would be expected; he enjoys natural colours, floral motifs (especially cherry blossoms), and wearing jewellery with organic materials such as shells, leather, and resin.

His facial expressions are usually gentle or neutral; he carries a relaxed demeanour and a calm aura.

After joining Sarif Industries, he underwent a life-changing procedure to install every commercially available hacking augmentation the company offered, including an infolink. The choice carried deep personal significance as he had been taught for most of his life that any form of bodily modification was haram. The implants remain visible on his forehead as three pentagonal nodes arranged in a triangular pattern.

==Personality==
Keane is intellectually inclined with a specific interest in the intersection between politics and technology, which inspired him to become a vigilante hacker. He hates authoritarianism with a passion due to his first-hand experiences with it and values freedom and social justice against corruption.

Despite this, he doesn't come off as a screaming emotionally-inflamed warrior, but more of a peace-keeper, valuing harmony and cooperation. He is notoriously difficult to rile up as he can remain cool, coming up with the perfectly calculated counter arguments against any would-be aggressor.

He also has many traditionally geeky interests such as fantasy fictional settings and roleplaying games.

==History==
Keane was born as Khan Al-Harbi, into an affluent Saudi Arabian family. Their wealth came from owning land with petroleum reserves, with ties to oil exporting industries. Owing to his family's status, Keane spent most of his life in the west, having lived in the UK and USA for multiple years. Being rather isolated as a teenager, he found it difficult to make friends. It was during those adolescent years that he realised that some of his opinions and desires conflicted greatly with his Muslim heritage, which started to cause a strain in the relationship with his large family. In turn, his parents started to put more pressure on him than usual, forcing him to go back to Saudi to live with his grandparents for months at a time.

After keeping up his "good behaviour" for a while and avoiding stepping out of line too much, he managed to gain some freedom to choose what to study at university. His parents wanted him to study to either be a doctor or a lawyer, in a western country, however he decided to go against their antiquated desires and study computing instead. His parents may have disapproved at first, but he managed to convince them to allow him to study in the UK and live in student accommodation. He really wanted to break out of the feeling that he was being constantly monitored and watched, as it was starting to make him extremely paranoid.

While studying, Keane met [[Jacynthia Levert]] during a retro games night at the university campus Gaming Society, and they very quickly became friends. In the short span of just under 2 years, Keane and Jacy built a strong foundation of trust and concern for one another, and Keane finally was able to come out to Jacy. A secret he was holding to himself for what felt like forever.

Being honest about it cracked open a whole new way of seeing the world. He was tired of his oppressive family, he was tired of feeling like his life was driven by someone else. Pulling some funds together so as to no longer rely on his parents’ wealth, he decides to move to the US to finish his studies in Computer Science and hopefully land a silicone valley job.

With Jacy following in step, both Keane and Jacy became an unstoppable team, working to make a better life for themselves.
