Overview

Mathilde Adams is the biological twin sister of Francis Pritchard. Their surnames differ because Francis was adopted by Tobias Pritchard as a teenager, leaving Mathilde behind with Antonio Vasquez while she kept her birth name.

She is depicted with a floral tattoo around her right bicep, that reaches down the side of her back, matching a similar snake tattoo her brother has on the opposing arm.

History

Mathilde was born alongside her brother in New Hampshire, while their parents were on vacation. Her mother, Yvonne Pouline, was a French freelance programmer, and her father was an American computer engineer from Texas. They would often joke that they got along so well together because they were like hardware and software.

When Mathilde and Francis were 7 years old, their parents died in a car crash, resulting in the two ending up in foster care, where there two remained in the system for many years.

Growing up, Mathilde was described as being too kind for her own good. She would often bring in strays; cats, dogs, and even a bird she named after her mother. She also wanted to become a botanist, being fascinated by flowers to such a degree that could refer to them by their Latin names whenever she spotted one.

As teenagers, both Mathilde and Francis ended up crossing paths with Antonio, another foster kid, where he inducted them into his gang, The Abandoned. With Tonio leading the charge, he would use his charm to manipulate the two, using them to further his desires and goals. Sooner or later, they started being involved in gang crime and drugs, gaining juvenile criminal records in the process.

Tonio was extremely possessive towards Mathilde and Francis, and took it personally when Francis was adopted by Tobias Pritchard, leaving Mathilde behind with him. After Francis lost contact with them, he only heard rumours about what was happening, many of them indicating that Mathilde became a junkie and wasn't doing very well, no doubt due to Tonio's influence. Eventually, the trail went cold, leaving Francis to believe that his sister might be dead, having overdosed in a back alley somewhere.

Timeline

For his entire adult life, Pritchard greatly regretted leaving his sister behind when he got adopted, and went through great efforts to try to locate her again, even going as far as hiring Bill Carson, a private investigator. Unbeknownst to Pritchard, however, Carson was a newer member of the Abandoned crew and was feeding information about him to its leader, Antonio Vasquez (the only person who might know of Mathilde's whereabouts), someone who Pritchard would rather steer clear of due to their past together.

This results in Pritchard getting kidnapped by The Abandoned crew, as the aforementioned gang leader had an unhealthy possessive and romantic interest in Pritchard. Though, Tonio's true intentions were to use his hacking prowess to pull off a siege on the Sarif Industries headquarters, which is no different to how Tonio used him in the past to commit similar crimes with his gang.

Leaving messages behind like breadcrumbs, Shauna Sullivan and Adam Jensen investigate Pritchard's absence, eventually realising what had happened. He manages to track him down at San Antonio, Texas and rescue him from Tonio's grip, learning about his nefarious plan in the process. Pritchard also fills Jensen in on all the unpleasant details of his unfortunate life, including his sister. They, along with Sullivan and Faridah Malik, work together to prevent the gang from succeeding in their hostile takeover of Sarif Industries as well as defeating Tonio and his gang.

Pritchard injects Tonio with Leash—a drug that Tonio was using to control his followers—to subdue him and get him to talk, but he suddenly dies in a self-detonation, as his body was rigged specifically to explode if it ever detected that drug in his system. Once again leaving Pritchard without the information he so desperately needed about his missing sister.

During the aftermath, Pritchard suffers heavy internal bleeding due to the injuries of the blast, and is flown to Beaumont Hospital when the paramedics arrive on the scene. Miraculously, no one was killed except for Tonio's gang.

While Pritchard was undergoing surgery in the hospital, Jensen was approached by Eavan Kavanagh of Homeland Security, who handed him a file labelled Jane Doe. That Jane Doe was in fact Mathilde Adams, and she was alive...but not well.

Mathilde resided in Cleveland Hospital, Ohio, where she is comatose and with child and being attended by Dr. Joshi. As soon as Pritchard was up and about from his surgery, he travelled to see her in that state. During hospital room visits, he would place her favourite flowers—lilies—and read books to her.

David Sarif offers to transport the sister to Detroit so she would be easier for Pritchard to visit and take care of her. After being moved to Beaumont Hospital, she still remained in a coma, thoiugh she appeared to look healthier. However, she was entering her third trimester, and it is not know if she ever woke up or gave birth, nor what the plan was if a baby did come into the world and who would look after it.
