Owing to his family's status, Keane spent most of his life in the west, having lived in the UK and USA for multiple years. Being rather isolated as a teenager, he found it difficult to make friends. It was during those adolescent years that he realised that some of his opinions and desires conflicted greatly with his Muslim heritage, which started to cause a strain in the relationship with his large family. Keane Grimford is a cybersecurity analyst and red-hat hacker that worked in the Sarif Industries IT department between 2025 and 2028.
Hand chosen by Athene Margoulis on behalf of David Sarif's unusual hiring requirements, he acted as Frank Pritchard's main assistant and protégé during the time of his employment, often covering the office nightshift.
History
Keane was born as Khan Al-Harbi, into an affluent Saudi Arabian family. Their wealth came from owning land with petroleum reserves, with ties to oil exporting industries. Owing to his family's status, Keane spent most of his life in the west, having lived in the UK and USA for multiple years. Being rather isolated as a teenager, he found it difficult to make friends. It was during those adolescent years that he realised that some of his opinions and desires conflicted greatly with his Muslim heritage, which started to cause a strain in the relationship with his large family. In turn, his parents started to put more pressure on him than usual, forcing him to go back to Saudi to live with his grandparents for months at a time.
After keeping up his "good behaviour" for a while and avoiding stepping out of line too much, he managed to gain some freedom to choose what to study at university. His parents wanted him to study to either be a doctor or a lawyer, in a western country, however he decided to go against their antiquated desires and study computing instead. His parents may have disapproved at first, but he managed to convince them to allow him to study in the UK and live in student accommodation. He really wanted to break out of the feeling that he was being constantly monitored and watched, as it was starting to make him extremely paranoid.
While studying, Keane met Jacynthia Levert during a retro games night at the university campus Gaming Society, and they very quickly became friends. In the short span of just under 2 years, Keane and Jacy built a strong foundation of trust and concern for one another, and Keane finally was able to come out to Jacy. A secret he was holding to himself for what felt like forever.
Being honest about it cracked open a whole new way of seeing the world. He was tired of his oppressive family, he was tired of feeling like his life was driven by someone else. Pulling some funds together so as to no longer rely on his parents’ wealth, he decides to move to the US to finish his studies in Computer Science and hopefully land a silicone valley job.
With Jacy following in step, both Keane and Jacy became an unstoppable team, working to make a better life for themselves.
