==Overview== | |||
Iris is one of the first recorded nanites experiences on humans that took place starting from 2027 and, possibly, the first (and only?) who managed to survive past the experimentations despite her body being incompatibile with nanites.
This results in a long serie of debilitating issues for Iris, despite her nanites being mostly dormant, and her body ultimately keeps functioning only thanks to her mechanical augmentations. It is safe to assume her lifespan is considerably reduced, although no one knows how long she can keep kickin'.

Once infiltrated the laboratory and broke free by yet another operation, Iris is faced by the truth: [https://deusex.fandom.com/wiki/Gary_Savage Gary Savage], led by Versalife CEO [https://deusex.fandom.com/wiki/Bob_Page Bob Page], is the head of the project. After witnessing him order his subordinates to find Iris alive and bring her back to him, she engages in a fight with his augmented secretary and secures her own killswitch before finding another terrifying clue: an enormous statue of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iris_Takes_the_Fallen_Hero_to_Olympus the goddess Iris is holding a dead man in her arms], and the dead man has Adam's augmentations. Now calmed down, the two keep digging for informations in the laboratory, until they find what seems to be the main room, including a Gold Mask clearly produced specifically for Iris - which she promptly destroys - and the blueprint of a new set of mechanical augmentations Iris would've been forced to wear coded under the name "1R15".
As Adam starts copying the data of the project on a datastick, Janus makes his appearance on the screen to finally discuss the matter with Iris for the first time. This angers Iris to the point she immediately decides to destroy every evidence of the project in that same instant: and by doing so, she ultimately doesn't let Janus get a hold of it. | This angers Iris to the point she immediately decides to destroy every evidence of the project in that same instant: and by doing so, she ultimately doesn't let Janus get a hold of it.

It'll be only later revealed by Adam, once Iris will have joined him back home in Prague, that he indeed managed to copy the data of the project: he keeps it in a datastick in his safe, waiting for Iris to either read it - and discover who she was in the past - or destroy it. Iris is an original character created by Heartspowl for her fancomic CODE: 1R15. Many artists have contributed fanart of Iris and she has amassed community support as well as being featured as one of the main characters in the Deus Ex game mod Deus Ex: Machine God.
Overview
Iris is one of the first recorded nanites experiences on humans that took place starting from 2027 and, possibly, the first (and only?) who managed to survive past the experimentations despite her body being incompatibile with nanites. This results in a long serie of debilitating issues for Iris, despite her nanites being mostly dormant, and her body ultimately keeps functioning only thanks to her mechanical augmentations. It is safe to assume her lifespan is considerably reduced, although no one knows how long she can keep kickin'.
Timeline
2028
Just recently moved into Prague, Adam Jensen is tasked to infiltrate a shady hospital in an unknown outskirt of the city. In that same hospital, hiding underground, is located the laboratory where Adam makes his first choice: to save the unconscious woman he finds, or to simply retrieve the data of the unknown project - as Janus tasked him to do.
Adam brings the woman home, gives her shelter, medical checkups (through Koller, who discovers she has been poorly nanoaugmented and is severely bugging) and - upon realizing the captors have erased her whole memories - an identity, by associating the name of the project he briefly spotted during the mission (1R15) to the name "Iris".
2029
After a few months of forced co-habitation, Iris had enough of living in a cage waiting for Adam to find all the answers. She runs away, leaving behind just a note, and eventually reaches Mlada Boleslav.
That is where she meets Matthias McClean and Agatha Romero, who both initiate her into new chapters of her journey.
Agatha starts coaching her to participate in the street fights organized in the neighborhood, a way to forge her body, mind, and keep finding neuropozyne; while Matthias forges new ID cards and augmentation permits to allow her to roam around freely.
Peace doesn't last long: Just as Agatha is revealing to Iris how they were best friends in her previous life and how she is the reason of that scar on her eye, caused by the Aug Incident psychosis of 2027, a group of Dvali finds their location and storms into the neighborhood. This results in Agatha revealing to Iris her real name before the abduction in 2028 (Alyssa), giving up her life to give Iris a chance to flee, and in the latter accidentally triggering the EMP Blast aug for the first time.
Found and woken up by Matthias, he admits his secret: he's a New Sons of Freedom agent, and Juan Ivanovich Lebedev wants her with them. Accepting his offer, Iris pays one visit to Koller to fix her bugging system before fleeing to the US for a speed training, and officially joining the New Sons of Freedom.
Iris still seeks revenge for Agatha; as soon as she steps foot back in Prague a couple months later, she starts tracking down those who attacked them in Mlada Boleslav. Found their hideout, Iris is ready to execute their boss when Adam Jensen appears and stops her in the act.
After an heated discussion as of why did Iris leave and why is she following such a vengeful path, where Iris confirms to him that her identity is now "Iris" and not "Alyssa", the two agree to meet up again at her new place, floor #86 in Libuse Apartments - and cooperate.
Now working together, Adam and Iris put the pieces of the puzzle back: someone paid the Dvali to capture her, so to find who this "someone" is, they'll have to infiltrate their territory.
After asking (a very happy) Koller for advices and finalizing her new mechanical arm, Iris sneaks into the Dvali Apartments in search for clues while Adam is supposed to be in Switzerland, unaware that he's already back; and unsurprisingly busts her in the act while she's collecting infos in Semyon Okulov's computer. As Iris asks why he is back so early, Adam reveals he has been poisoned by the enemy; this sparks anger in Iris, who quickly takes down the Dvali that entered the apartment in the meantime, and once that's done, she approaches Adam and kisses him, fueled by the knowledge she could've lost him without even realizing it.
Another discussion sparks when Adam reluctantly pulls her away, and Iris leaves the scene.
After Adam's discovery of the poison at GARM, the NSF could confirm that the mysterious substance previously found in extremely small doses in Iris's tests was the same: the Orchid. Iris calls him, aware that he's in London, to inform him about her plans and excuse herself for how she's acted till now.
Tracking down the data found in the Dvali territory, Iris reaches the apartment of one of the doctors who have seemingly worked on her back in 2028, and (intentionally) gets abducted once again by the Golden Masks. Once infiltrated the laboratory and broke free by yet another operation, Iris is faced by the truth: Gary Savage, led by Versalife CEO Bob Page, is the head of the project. After witnessing him order his subordinates to find Iris alive and bring her back to him, she engages in a fight with his augmented secretary and secures her own killswitch before finding another terrifying clue: an enormous statue of the goddess Iris is holding a dead man in her arms, and the dead man has Adam's augmentations. The violent shock of realizing she was made to kill the man she now loves causes her to trigger yet another EMP Blast, this time felt by a distressed Adam as well, who's just reached the location.
Adam finds her at the feet of the statue, in a panicked state. Screaming at him to get away from her results useless - he approaches her either way and, this time, he's the one initiating a kiss, reassuring her that he'll never be scared of who she decides to be.
As Adam starts copying the data of the project on a datastick, Janus makes his appearance on the screen to finally discuss the matter with Iris for the first time. He reveals he knew since the beginning that there was an unconscious woman being held as experimental subject in the laboratory, when he had sent Adam in with the order to only retrieve the data. This angers Iris to the point she immediately decides to destroy every evidence of the project in that same instant: and by doing so, she ultimately doesn't let Janus get a hold of it.
2030
It'll be only later revealed by Adam, once Iris will have joined him back home in Prague, that he indeed managed to copy the data of the project: he keeps it in a datastick in his safe, waiting for Iris to either read it - and discover who she was in the past - or destroy it. The choice is hers.

1R15
Inspired by the goddess of the rainbow Iris from the Greek myths, 1R15 was the supposed end result of the homonymous project Iris was victim of, lead by Gary Savage under Bob Page's orders. Brainwashed and heavily mechanically augmented, the subject's end goal was to be leading the Golden Masks terroristic group against whoever dared to oppose the Page's interests, therefore acting - like the namesake goddess - as a messenger between the Gods (her masters) and the humans (the population). This ending would've been achieved by her creators in the eventuality of Adam Jensen either
- not finding Iris or;
- choosing to retrieve the project's data instead of saving her.
Trivia
- By DNA tests, she's allegedly Italo-American. This theory is supported by some of Iris's mannerisms and natural ability to understand some basic Italian, but she chose to never dig much into it.
- A headcanon, but still relevant: there are high chances that her biological parents were supposed to take part to the Helix Lab's experimentations, but ultimately didn't. This would explain how and why she was chosen as subject for the project 1R15.
