Overview

James is Bella Cousland and JC Denton's son, conceived in a one-night stand sometime around 2052 during a special trip JC took to Hong Kong before parting to Area 51.

His mother hid his father's identity and raised him alone, mostly to protect them both as JC came to be known as the man who caused The Collapse.

He is a Specialforces soldier, the lieutenant of a platoon known as Alpha-Team in America.

Appareance

He's described to look alike with Alex Denton, as well as being particularly tall:

JC walked in front of James and even though he was one head smaller than James, he said with a very demanding voice.

Alex was a little bit horrified by James's height, but he didn't show it outside and he reliesed from his rifle.

Personality

He's mostly rude, brash and ill-tempered. Alex calls him out upon first meeting him:

"You know, I think you actually enjoy being such an asshole!! No wonder you were sitting alone in that tavern!"

James also has a knack for bullying others he perceives as weaker, though he apparently doesn't take the "teasing" too far:

He enjoyed teasing other people, especially if they were smaller than him, but he had his limits which he would never cross and it was mainly because of the fact that he had always being the one who was teased when he was a kid.

His disrespectful attitude can explode through even against his own mother, who he threatens with physical violence when arguing about abandoning her side upon discovering JC as his father:

"What makes you think I wouldn't do that now? I'm much tougher than you and I could take you down easily."

He isn't completely unresoneable though, as he's capable of yielding and obeying when the situation warrants it:

James nodded too and he let Alex to be the leader since he didn't have any idea which way to go.

James looked at JC for a while very angry before he sighed and he lowered his head:
"Very well, you made a point. But I'm not going to call you my dad! To me, I don't have a dad."

Timeline

2050's

After Bella leaves Hong Kong, she raises James in America by herself, hiding the fact that JC Denton is his father. Not much is known of his childhood, except that he was bullied by his peers.

2060's

At the tail end of this period it's assumed James joins the military.

2072

Due to the ongoing and escalating conflict between factions, the WTO hires and brings soldiers from America to Trier; one of the platoons being James'. He's given explicit orders of bringing Alex Denton to Chad Dumier's presence, Alex still being an undercover ApostleCorp operative posing as WTO member.
James encounters Alex at the tavern and follows him curious of their uncanny physical likeness, only to end up with Alex's gun barrel to the side of the head. There, he meets Tracer Tong, someone James is already acquainted with as Tracer knew Bella in the past.

After some arguing, Alex allows James to bring him to Chad's presence, where they continue arguing some more. After this task is complete, James is told he can take a short-leave which he can't rest from as Tracer contacts him, asking to reach Alex immediatly as he was about to pass though the Black Gate.
Since James already works for the WTO, he's granted access to the restricted area where he, once again, argues with Alex. Alex had no time to waste though, and passes through the Gate once it's open, warning James to not follow him as the Gate only let's people with the Denton genetic profile through. James doesn't listen, and runs towards it at the last second, ending up in Anarctica.

After even more arguing and wondering if the Black Gate glitched, they reach The Sanctuary, which Alex uses as the ultimate test to figure out if the Gate truly glitched. The two enter the structure and after concluding the Gate didn't glitch, Alex tells James to stay where he is as he has to explore further inside in order to awake JC. He obeys and quickly finds JC suspended inside an energy field, pondering for a while until JC unexpectedly awakes and strikes a conversation with him. That is until Alex returns and James is suddenly knocked out.

After he wakes up, he finds himself in an unfamiliar bedroom, hearing whispers from the adjoining room. When he leans forward to see through the half-open door, he identifies his mother and JC Denton. Bella realizes he's awake and reaches out to talk, but he immediatly shuts the door and tries jumping off the window, being stopped by what seems to be telekinetic powers from JC. James begins arguing with the two of them, which is instantly stopped after JC threatens James with persecuting him with all his forces if he dares leaving her mother.
James yields, but making clear he doesn't recognice JC as his father, JC nodding and agreeing he also doesn't view James as his son.

Afterwards, when the final battle rages in Liberty Island, James and his platoon bring support to ApostleCorp focusing mostly against the Templars. During the battle and right before Alex enters JC's machine, James and JC recognize eachother as father and son.
