Overview

A prodigy child that was diagnosed with Hermansky Pudlak Syndrome who was picked up by UNATCO soon after leaving college. She works as a doctor and nano-augmentation specialist underneath Dr. Jaime Reyes, hoping to eventually find a cure for her genetic illness.

Appearance

████ Lovelace is a 5'1" albino woman with mid-length lily white wavy hair and pale red eyes. She commonly wears a lab coat with red cross on her right shoulder, a light grey tee shirt and pants with a slightly darker pair of grey shoes with red lace during work hours, alongside a dark grey curve-top adjustable cane with two blue stripes.

Personality

Lovelace is a overtly courteous and softhearted individual, being very commiserative towards others in and outside of UNATCO.

Someone of high emotional intelligence due to others treatment of her because of her illness aswell as having to grow up quickly, she is very perceptive to the point of being guarded regarding certain members of UNATCO, especially those whom are very trigger happy involving missions. She is very hyper-vigilant towards those she perceives as threats due to this and despite being very friendly to her co-workers, she is extremely quiet about her personal life.

She holds idealistic views involving humanity and choices, she firmly believes that humans are their choices and people, by default, are capable of choosing their own paths and it's not a matter of nature vs nurture.

Whilst humanity hasn't been the kindest to her and has constantly underestimated her due to her illness, she's hopeful that (most) people can be be good through their actions if they just tried, though does hold specific boundaries involving such outlook. She holds a conditional view on pacifism, as she believes that violence does have a place for defensive purposes.

She has a firm belief that she is going to die sooner than later compared to others and keeps most at arms length due to that, if she can help it (though has, more often than not, failed at not forming connections with others). She does not want to be a burden to others due to her illness, being rather lonely in her solitude and a frequent denier of help, being too 'giving' towards others at times.

As RHODOS

Her personality is a shell of it's former self, given her ai construct is based off of incorrect data, something that she is self-aware of. In a state of constant exhaustion, she is a follower more often than not, barely speaking to the point of being selectively mute. She no longer reacts to most things as a human would, with most of her softer sides being outright removed in return for complete silence or cryptic responses.

She is capable of mimicking regular human behavior, such as responses to stimuli such as pain like being stabbed or shot with her construct reflecting such things, her form eventually returns to normal, though.

Timeline

2052

Post-Mission 1 - UNATCO

Lovelace is introduced to JC by Dr. Reyes, being told that she is his assigned technician and that he will assume her position in the event she is ever too sick. At her desk sits a computer and various medical implements.

Mission 2

Lovelace can be seen sitting down at the bar in the Underworld Tavern, overhearing Eva Nadezhda and Charles Sunderlands discussion about drugging her. After Eva and the man is threatened by JC, he informs her of what had occurred and she tells him that she has been overhearing the conversation the entire time, stating she would never take a drink from Eva.

• JC Denton: They were talking about you over there.
• Lovelace: I know.
• JC Denton: You know?
• Lovelace: I've been overhearing it this entire time. Don't worry about me.
• JC Denton: You sure?
• Lovelace: This isn't the first time she's tried to barter me with someone. Go on with your mission, I'll give you a check-up once we're back.

After they finish chatting, she opts to sit near Jock on the off-chance Eva comes back, riding back in his helicopter with him.

2052-53

After the Collapse, her health quickly deteriorates and she gets placed within a stasis pod whilst waiting for a cure under the watch of JC-Helios.

Relationships

JC Denton

“	I know you can't promise it, but ... Come back alive, please. —Lovelace	”
“	You're going to hold me to that, huh? Guess I don't have a choice. —JC Denton	”
“	Not with this. —Lovelace	”

Assigned to be his main technician and physician upon his introduction to UNATCO, Lovelace immediately treated him as she would the others: As a peer, rather than something cool to gawk at due to his augments, seeing him as nothing more than the person he actually is. Her perception of Paul helping JC into getting into swift good graces with her, on top of his actions on the field.

They quickly bonded throughout the few days he was at UNATCO, with her checking up on him frequently after he came back from missions and before he had chats with Manderley. Whenever the two chatted, it was more like friends than co-workers, being on very similar wavelengths in terms of opinions even if Lovelace has more trouble being outspoken on certain things due to her situation there. In the small moments of calm and casual situations between the two, she made sure to thank him with any type of defending he does for her with items that allow him to heal such as medkits or biocells.

After Pauls defection, she was hasty to defend JC against the opinions of others that felt he may be a risk due to his similarities to his brother, standing by his side even when she started catching flack for it, having formed a small romantic interest in him even if that wasn't the main driving force behind her actions.

Once JC defected himself, she was quick to take him up on his offer and helped him escape (even at the risk of her being unable to keep access to her medications) to join them against UNATCO , which JC was content to know she was away from them and in a safer place with latent feelings for her having already begun to form. Before he leaves for the final time, Lovelace requests for him to come back alive.

A few months after his merge with HELIOS and the collapse, her health begins to crash downward and he has her placed within stasis as he attempts to find a way to cure her of her illness and allow her to experience the new world he will make alongside him.

JC-HELIOS (RHODOS)

Though the love she has for him is still there, she is conflicted in the fact that she perceives her entrapment as an AI as intentional on his part, unaware that she was stolen from him. She is avoidant of interacting with him directly, focusing on whomever else is around whenever in discussion, though supports his want for the world to become one.

JC-HELIOS is confused by her 'inability' to see or interact with him.
Unaware what happened to her, assumed she was in stasis. JC is disturbed to see her like this.

Paul Denton

Lovelace has been friends with Paul since the early days in her career at UNATCO due to similar views. She quickly began respect him and his methods, being very happy that he wasn't trigger happy like some others there. Paul is somewhat protective over her due to her health and mannerisms, knowing how often certain higher ups walk over her due to her demeanor. He often checks up on her during downtime, helped by the fact that she rooms at the 'Ton next to him.

Her perception of him helped her feel more relaxed when JC came around, knowing that if Paul was his brother, it meant that he could also be as upstanding as him. Once he defected to the NFS, she knew there must have been a good reason and worries for him upon learning of his timer. She is happy to know he's alive and bomb-free once his bomb has been deactivated and he's glad to know she's out of UNATCO territory.

He is horrified to see how quickly she deteriorates once the Collapse occurs and helps JC put her into stasis.

Paul Denton (RHODOS)

Unnerved and suspicious of her words, even if she seems to agree the world should be as one alongside JC-HELIOS.
He's wondered where she went for a while.

Jaime Reyes

Her higher up and someone whom acts like a teacher to her, Jaime and her get along well. Regarding each other as somewhat familial due to their close proximity alongside similar views daily, Jaime was one of the first people she met up at UNATCO alongside Paul. He is very understanding of her condition and splits up their assigned tasks as to not stress her body too much, which normally she is able to power through. He joins most of the UNATCO crew alongside her in defecting against them.

He was able to help her condition slowdown enough to be put into stasis.
Unaware as to where she is post-sedation, if she's even in stasis anymore.
Separated from the group.

Sam Carter

Someone who she regards as a father figure, Sam and her have interacted frequently after the unfortunate loss of his family and his joining at UNATCO as a Quartermaster. In the absence of both of their families, they bonded quick enough to where by the time 2052 rolled around, he had been teaching her how to shoot and defend herself, something that he worried about considering her physical condition and mannerisms.

Currently, has no idea of her whereabouts and lost complete contact after the Collapse with him only knowing that her health had gotten worse.
Assumes shes dead.

Gunther Hermann

“	I'm not saying you're delicate, I'm saying you need to be more careful with your augments. You've been coming back with increasingly more damage, it's — it's getting concerning, Hermann. —Lovelace	”

A relationship filled with self fulfilling prophecies and uncomfortable situations, Lovelace and Gunther are on extremely unsteady terms by the start of Deus Ex. His propensity for violence regarding NSF troops, no matter how minor, has caused her to become unsettled and disturbed by his actions and prefers to keep her relationship to him purely in a professional sense. She is deeply saddened that he has decided to dedicate himself to becoming nothing more than a weapon for UNATCO to wield, use, and rebuild until he's dead.

They have had many arguments about his actions out on the field and inability to keep himself from coming back more and more injuries. He has made attempts to be on better terms with her, yet, considering how often his talks involve his work, has only resulted is her becoming more and more uncertain about him.

Once she learned of his death at the hands of J.C, she quickly accepts it as a necessary death.

Eva Nadezhda

Someone who triggers her paranoia more than anyone else at UNATCO. Eva and her have always had a tense relationship, with them only interacting because of work. Lovelace is scared of her and wonders what she's planning against her every time they're in a conversation with each other because of her repeated and blatant disregard for her boundaries and wants. She has tried reporting Eva over and over, just to get silence from the higher ups.

After Mission 2, where Eva speaks of drugging her, their relationship becomes completely irreparable.

After Evas death, Lovelace is happy she's dead and gets comfort from the fact that Eva will no longer cause anyone any issues anymore.

RHODOS

Inspired by the greek mythos of the goddess of the island Rhodes, Rhodus, RHODOS is an AU of Lovelace whom was placed in stasis by JC-HELIOS in the Invisible War timeline in order to preserve her whilst a cure for her genetic illness could be studied and created once her health began to rapidly deteriorate due to the Collapse

After JC-HELIOS was placed into stasis himself, her project fell into disarray and managed to be reacquired by a company who actively attempted to recreate sentient AI's using humans as test subjects.

• Her official voiceclaim is Salóme Gunnarsdóttir who plays Mary / Maria in SILENT HILL 2: REMAKE.
  • Lovelace herself uses Marys vocal cadence and mannerisms whereas RHODOS uses Marias, respectively.
• Her last name is based off of "Ada Lovelace", who is widely considered the worlds first computer programmer.
• Capable of using both of her legs, has mild rotational issues and chronic pain in her left. Her cane helps with pressure placed on her ankles.
