Overview
Aeona Bree is a former Sarif Industries assistant and experimental augmentation recipient living in Prague. After losing both of her parents and her legs in a car accident, she received a pair of prototype limb augmentations developed by Sarif Industries. Aeona later formed close personal relationships with both Adam Jensen and David Sarif.
Her unique augmentations were designed for reconnaissance and covert operations, making her a target for people seeking access to the technology. The Juggernaut Collective consequently assigned Jensen to protect her.
Appearance
Aeona is a young woman with golden eyes and brown hair.
Her augmented legs give her a subtly unnatural gait which may be noticed by people familiar with advanced prostheses.
She frequently wears boots and a weathered coat, which she considers one of her favourite possessions.
Augmentations
Prototype Limb Prostheses
Aeona possesses a pair of unique experimental leg augmentations produced by Sarif Industries. They restore her ability to walk and permit enhanced running, jumping and climbing. The legs contain internal energy cells.
Gravity Runner
The Gravity Runner produces a magnetic field which allows Aeona's feet to attach to metal structures within walls. She can use the system to run vertically along buildings and move around surfaces beyond the reach of attackers below.
During early testing, Aeona can sustain the magnetic field for approximately sixty seconds. Extended use consumes substantial energy and causes severe headaches.
Personality
Aeona is shy, self-conscious and easily intimidated by people she respects. She frequently worries about embarrassing herself, saying something foolish or making a poor first impression. This nervousness is expressed physically through habits such as shifting her weight, clasping her hands and repeatedly tapping the floor with the toe of her boot.
Despite her social anxiety, Aeona is polite and considerate. She is reluctant to inconvenience others and regularly apologises when asking for assistance. While staying in Adam Jensen's apartment, she offered to sleep on either the couch or the floor and insisted that she did not require special treatment.
Aeona is cautious and highly observant. When under threat, she monitors her surroundings, conceals her face and keeps a handgun beneath her coat. She is capable of recognising specialised augmentations and can distinguish Jensen's utilitarian prostheses from commercially available models.
She is resourceful in dangerous situations. When pursued by armed attackers, Aeona uses her enhanced legs, scanner, Gravity Runner and Icarus Landing systems to escape through the upper floor of a building. Although frightened, she is capable of making rapid tactical decisions under pressure.
Aeona remains anxious about her safety and has difficulty trusting assurances that a threat has ended. She is particularly uncomfortable when left alone after relying upon another person for protection. Her possession of experimental reconnaissance augmentations leaves her aware that she may remain a target even after evidence connecting her to an operation has been removed.
She develops trust slowly but becomes strongly attached to people who make her feel safe. She trusts Jensen partly because he is also augmented, although his extensive combat augmentations sometimes disturb her. Aeona prefers to view him as a human being rather than as a weapon or "death machine".
Aeona deeply admires David Sarif and regards his augmentation work as a service to humanity. She credits him with giving disabled people the opportunity to continue their lives and is grateful that his company allowed her to walk again. Her admiration eventually develops into a personal friendship, and she occasionally visits Sarif with food and alcohol to keep him company and improve his mood.
Although generally reserved, Aeona is capable of dry humour and flirtatious teasing. She also displays a strong capacity for aesthetic attraction and can openly appreciate another person's appearance without necessarily seeking a relationship with them.
Aeona has little interest in sexual contact and even less interest in conventional romantic interaction. She may experience romantic attraction without acting upon it and is more inclined to develop intense platonic attachments. She is comfortable with moderate forms of sensual affection, including sharing food and brushing another person's hair.
History
Aeona's parents worked for Sarif Industries for several years as Aug-Specialized Rehabilitation Physicians, where they helped people recover and learn to use their augs while making sure their bodies won't reject them. Aeona occasionally assisted them and became familiar with the company's patients, employees and augmentation technology. She also attended company office parties, where she briefly encountered David Sarif several times without becoming personally acquainted with him.
She wanted to train to become a police officer, however her parents discouraged her, fearing she would get hurt and end up like one of their patients. Unbeknownst to Aeona, this was an unfortunate premonition for what was to come.
2026
Her family maintained a tradition of travelling together shortly before Aeona's birthday. On 2nd of September 2026, while travelling on one of these family trips, they were involved in a car accident. Both of Aeona's parents were killed, while Aeona survived but lost both of her legs. She was told that due to the extensive damage and crushing her legs, she'd never walk right again without augmentations.
Sarif Industries subsequently provided Aeona with experimental limb prostheses. These augs restored her ability to walk and incorporated several advanced systems intended for reconnaissance and espionage. Aeona became a prototype tester and underwent an extended period of rehabilitation and adjustment.
Being short on money, she agreed to test the Gravity Runner Prototype augs for research, a few other minor augs put in to assist as a set such as a gyroscope, scanner, shock absorbers and a few more.
Timeline
2027
As Aeona was in recovery after her injuries, and had yet to be discharged, she did not have the opportunity to visit a LIMB clinic for the biochip recall. The Aug Incident then takes place shortly after while she was still in the recovery room. She was unaffected by the signal, however she had to barriade herself while it was happening.
2028
Following the Panchaea incident, Aeona arranges a meeting with David Sarif while Sarif Industries is experiencing severe financial problems. Although they have previously met, this is their first substantial conversation.
Aeona confides with Sarif about the grief she experienced losing her parents, and expresses gratitude to him for making it possible for her to walk again. She reports that her augmented legs are functioning well, although the Gravity Runner system continues to cause headaches. At this stage, she can maintain its magnetic field for approximately sixty seconds. Her doctor expects the augmentations to become fully functional without major complications by the end of the year.
Aeona and Sarif subsequently become friends. She occasionally visits his apartment with pizza and scotch, spending the evening sharing stories about life before the Panchaea incident. These visits are partly intended to lift Sarif's spirits during the decline of his company.
Aeona continues adapting to her augmentations and becomes increasingly capable of using their specialised functions. She remains dependent upon regular neuropozyne treatment.
2029
Aeona lives alone in a small apartment in Prague. Her one-of-a-kind reconnaissance augmentations and the valuable technology in her possession attract unwanted attention. Her apartment is placed under surveillance, preventing her from safely returning to retrieve her belongings, sketchbook and neuropozyne supply.
The Juggernaut Collective arranges protective custody for Aeona and assigns Adam Jensen as her security detail. Aeona meets him in a secluded Prague courtyard while wearing a hood and carrying a concealed handgun. She initially feels intimidated by Jensen's reputation as "Sarif's Supersoldier" and worries that she has made a poor first impression.
The original plan is for Jensen to observe Aeona from a distance while she remains in a safe location. After circumstances change, Jensen instead takes her to his apartment and allows her to stay with him. Aeona accepts a place on his couch and uses his neuropozyne supply while it remains unsafe to visit her own home.

Aeona gradually begins to trust Jensen and regards him as someone she can contact even when no immediate emergency is occurring. Jensen offers to help her whenever possible, although his work frequently makes him unavailable.
Aeona later becomes involved in a mission with Jensen and Emiya which goes wrong. She remains at Jensen's home for several nights while the resulting danger subsides. Jensen removes evidence connecting Aeona to either man and assures her that she can safely return to her normal life. Aeona remains apprehensive and fears that Jensen may distance himself from her once she no longer requires protection.
During another incident, armed pursuers chase Aeona through the streets of Prague. She escapes over a tall fence using her augmented legs but becomes trapped in an alley surrounded by buildings. After activating a scanner, she uses her Gravity Runner augmentation to leap onto the side of a building and run vertically along its structure.
The system rapidly drains her energy cells and causes a severe headache. Unable to remain attached to the building indefinitely, she breaks through a window into an empty bathroom. Her Icarus Landing augmentation provides protection against a possible fall, although falling from that height remains dangerous.
Aeona is also subjected to anti-augmentation harassment when a teenage natural handcuffs her to a fence post and steals her food. Jensen happens to pass nearby and frees her. Embarrassed by her continued reliance upon him, Aeona apologises for requiring his help again.
Trivia
- Aeona reportedly smells faintly of shampoo, aged fabric, metal, polycarbonate and petrichor.
- She administers her nupoz dose once per week, and maintains a private supply at her apartment.
- She owns a sketchbook which she considers important enough to retrieve during an emergency, suggesting that drawing is one of her regular interests.
- She prefers to be addressed simply as "Aeona" rather than "Ms. Bree".
- Aeona's author has alternative versions of the character to use in other roleplay settings, so she is not specifically just a Deus Ex original character.
